Luke 1:17 “And he will go on before the Lord, in the spirit and Power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the parents to their children and the disobedient to the wisdom of the righteous -- to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.”

When guests come over to our house there is usually a bit of effort to make the house ready before they arrive.   Due to our busy schedules, sometimes our weekly chores get neglected, and if so, there is an all-out clean-up to make the house ready for guests!  Just like our homes, there are times that our hearts need to be prepared as well!

In Luke 1 an angel appears to Zechariah with the good news that he and Elizabeth will have a son.  Even better, this son will make ready the world for the coming Messiah!  To prepare for Jesus he will set aside good things to make room for the main thing, help people remember who they really are, and keep a soft heart.

How about you?  As we prepare to celebrate the arrival of Jesus Christ this Christmas how are you making your heart ready?  Is there a chance that a good thing has become the main focus of your heart?  Is there an area of your life where you have forgotten who you really are?  How are you keeping a soft heart in this busy season?

Take a few moments to read through Luke 1:5-17 and prepare your heart to welcome Jesus Christ this Christmas!  Make Ready!
