Colossians 3:23-24 “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward.  It is the Lord Christ you are serving.”

In his book, Find Your Why, Simon Sinek writes that we can find motivation for tasks when we stay focused on why we do our work.  For example, your “why” may be to provide for your family, please your boss, or save for a vacation.  Staying focused on your why can keep you motivated even when you are faced with work you don’t want to do!

In Colossians 3, we see another motivation to do good work: your “who!”  Paul challenges those who follow Jesus and says that when we work, it should be done in a way that honors Jesus.  Jesus gave us the blessing of our jobs, and He wants us to do them with our whole hearts!  Our work is a gift, and when we do it well, it gives glory to God.

How about you?  How is your attitude toward your work today?  Have you ever experienced the joy that comes when you do a job well?  When is the last time you thanked your supervisor or client for the opportunity to work for them?  Does the way you work reflect our Lord?

Take a few moments to read and reflect on Colossians 3. How can you focus on the “who” you work for next week?  How can you work in a way that pleases Jesus?
