Debt Paid
Colossians 2:13-14 He forgave us all our sins, having canceled the charge of our legal indebtedness, which stood against us and condemned us; he has taken it away, nailing it to the cross.
A couple of years ago, I celebrated with a couple who made their final payment on their student loans. For years, this couple worked extra jobs, sacrificed things they wanted, and diligently chipped away at their debts each month. Finally, after much effort and discipline, their debts were paid! They were so excited to have this off their back!
Could you imagine if someone paid their debt for them? If someone, as a surprise, decided to cover their debts so they did not have to pay them at all? In Colossians 2, the Bible says this is exactly what Jesus did for each of us spiritually. We don’t have to save or try to do good works to pay off our debt, but it is completely forgiven when we accept Jesus as our Savior.
How about you? Have you been trying to pay debt that is already paid? Sometimes pride makes us want to pay for things that have already been given. If you have accepted Jesus as your Savior, the great news is that your debts are paid!
Take a few moments this week to read and reflect on the wonderful gift of Jesus Christ in Colossians 2, and thank Jesus for paying it all.
