The Only Thing that Matters
1 Corinthians 13:13: “And now these three things remain: faith, hope, and love. But the greatest of these is love.”
My friend tells a funny story about his first middle school basketball game. The game just started and his team received the tip. He got the ball and started dribbling toward the closest goal. The only problem is that it was the other team’s basket! As he got closer people were yelling: “no, no!” but he heard “go, go!” Sure enough he jumped up and with perfect form laid the ball in the hoop. It wasn’t until a few moments later that he realized the embarrassing fact that he shot in the wrong hoop.
There are times in life when we look back and realize we were aiming for the wrong goal in life. But no one wants to look back at the scorecard of life and realize nothing they did ultimately counted. That is why we must focus on the only thing that matters.
In 1 Corinthians 13, Paul writes about the importance of love in our lives. He says, if one accomplishes great things and has great power but does not love, they are nothing. Scripture teaches us that love comes from being loved by God (1 John 4:19) and overflows into our daily lives.
How about you? Where is you love gauge right now? Are you filled with love of God or are you running on empty? Would others say that your life is marked by the love of God?
Take a few minutes to read and reflect on 1 Corinthians 13:1-13 and focus on the only thing that matters!
God Bless,
Mike
