John 1:14 “The word became flesh and made His dwelling among us. We have seen His glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.”

A number of years ago I got really excited about the rumor of a new family that was looking to move into our neighborhood. The neighbor two doors down was planning on moving to Florida and decided to put their house on the market. One of the potential buyers I heard was a famous baseball player for the Pittsburgh Pirates! I immediately began to imagine the fun we would have together. We could toss the baseball in the back yard, build slip and slides for the kids, go sled riding together in the winter.  We were going to be best friends! As it turns out he decided to move into another neighborhood (with more normal neighbors) and was traded just a few months later.

As I thought about that moment I asked myself why was I abnormally excited about my potential new neighbor? To be honest it was because he was special and I thought we might become friends.   At Christmas we celebrate God’s desire to become personal with us. The message translation says, “God became flesh and blood and moved into the neighborhood.” He desires to know us personally today.

How about you? Do you feel personally connected to God today? Does God feel more like a distant father than a trusted friend? Would you like to know Him better?

Take a few moments to read and reflect John 1:1-14 and celebrate the day God got personal!

Merry Christmas,

Mike
