Switching Tracks

Acts 9:5-6  “Who are you Lord?  “I am Jesus whom you are persecuting,” he replied.  Now get up and go to the city, and you will be told what you must do.” 

When I was a young boy I was fascinated with trains.  We had a set of track that ran behind the neighborhood and from time to time my friends and I would venture over to watch the trains run by.  They would move so fast that the wind from the train cars could almost blow you over!  One of the things I remember was how hard it was for the trains to change direction.  Once a locomotive was moving it took miles to slow it down, reverse direction and switch tracks. 

I think at times it can be difficult for us to switch directions as well.  Many times I feel like life is moving at the speed of a racing locomotive and it is hard to hear God’s voice or switch directions if He calls in another direction.  In Acts 9 Saul encounters Jesus and the entire direction of his life is changed.  The tracks that he was laying down for his life shift and God puts him on an entirely new path. 

Think back to a time in your life when God lead you in another direction.  What did you learn?  How did this season feel?  Why do these seasons of change seem difficult?  How can we listen to the voice of God and be more nimble in the future? 

Take a few moments and read and reflect on Acts 9:1-19.  Look at what God had to do to Saul to get his attention.  Maybe you can relate.  Write down the times in your life when God has switched your tracks and lead you to a new place and thank Him for his faithfulness today.
