Unexplainable: Prayer and Power
Acts 1:8 “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
Over the New Year my family and I had the opportunity to get away for a few days for the first time in over a year! It was a much needed adventure, and we decided to go skiing as a family. Now personally, I love to ski and I was very excited about exploring a new ski resort. As I planned for the trip I thought h about how I would ski for four days straight. I mean we made the investment of getting to the mountain and we should use every minute, right?
You can imagine what happened next. After two days my legs were shot! My daughter and I went out on the third day and I could barely turn. My ambition had exceeded my power.
What was true for me on the mountain that day is also true for our faith as well. In Acts 2, the risen Jesus reminds the disciples of the mission that he gave them but then tells them to wait. He knew that in order to accomplish the mission they would need more power than just their personal ambition. They needed the Holy Spirit.
You and I need the power of the Holy Spirit too. With Him our lives can be unexplainable, because God will do more than we can ask or imagine. To welcome the Holy Spirit, take time to pray and protect unity. When we repent, the Holy Spirit will change us in ways that we cannot explain.
How about you? Do you feel like you are living on the edge of your personal ability? Are you like a skier who wants to ski more but just can’t do it on his own? Ask the Holy Spirit to fill you today with the strength and power you need for the road ahead.
Take a few moments to read and reflect on Acts 2 and know that God can do the unexplainable in you today.
