I Shall Not Want
Psalm 23:1 “The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.”
More often than not, I am driven by something I want. For example, last night, I went out to dinner with my wife to a local restaurant. She gave me the choice, so we went to a place where I love their chicken sandwich. As we drove to the restaurant, my mouth began to water in anticipation. I couldn’t wait! You can imagine my disappointment when I opened the menu and learned they removed the chicken sandwich! I wasn’t angry but just disappointed, and nothing else on the menu could satisfy my desire. As a result, I convinced Rachelle to leave the restaurant and go across town to a restaurant that had my second-favorite chicken sandwich!
Sometimes the things we want can drive us to do silly things. However, in Psalm 23, we see that the Lord can fulfill all our needs. In this chapter, we see that God is truly good and can provide the peace that we need (v2). We learn that He is present even in the darkest times (v4), and that He pursues us always (v6).
How about you? Sometimes the things we want can drive us to do crazy things. Is there a desire that is driving you today in an unhealthy way?
The Lord is our Shepherd, and in Him we will not want! Take a few minutes to read and reflect on Psalm 23 and let Him be the one who fills your needs today.
