Ephesians 1:18-19  “I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which He has called you, the riches of His glorious inheritance in His holy people, and His incomparably great power for us who believe.”

Right now there are signs that many Americans are running low on hope.  Since March: alcohol and drug use are up, pornography use is up, anxiety is up, and marriage problems are up too.  This is not the life that God intends for us!

In 2 Kings 6 we see a story about how God gives hope when all seems lost.  In verse 13 we read about a moment when God’s prophet, Elisha is completely surrounded by his enemies.  His servant was understandably stressed by the circumstances when Elisha prays that he might see the spiritual reality of God’s protection.  At that moment Elisha’s servant can see the army of God surrounding them in protection!

When we feel surrounded by life’s problems we too need to open our eyes to God’s presence and love.  Our hope and future depends on what we see.  In these moments we need to learn to worship and pray bold prayers for what we need.

How about you?  Has the stress of the pandemic left you feeling surrounded?  Do you feel stuck with no way out?  Have you opened your eyes to the presence of God?  He is with you today.

Take a few moments to read and reflect on how God gave Elisha a hope and a future in 2 Kings 6:8-23.  Know today that God is with you even when you feel surrounded!
