In the Darkness
Psalms 43:3-5 “Send me your light and your faithful care, let them lead me; let them bring me to your holy mountain, to the place where you dwell."
When I was a child, I had the opportunity to go caving while at a summer day camp. After squeezing through a small hole in the ground and crawling through many tunnels and turns, we came to a large open space deep within the earth. The camp counselor then used the space to teach us about darkness and light. We turned off all our flashlights and experienced complete darkness. I couldn’t see my hand when it was right in front of my face! Then the counselor lit one match, and we watched as it had the power to illuminate the entire room.
One of the biggest challenges for many of us during the winter months is the lack of sunlight. After months of enjoying long summer days and the beautiful colors of autumn, we experience the dark and cold of winter. It is not by coincidence that we celebrate the arrival of the Light of the World during the darkest months of the year.
There are times in life when we can feel lost or confused in the personal dark seasons. Psalm 43 reminds us where to go during these seasons of life. As followers of Jesus, we can find God’s faithful care when we draw near to Him. In the presence of God, we can worship even when our hearts are downcast. Put your hope in Him and draw near to the Light of the World!
Pray:
Father, we are grateful that you are with us in every season of life, that we can find care for our souls when we draw near to you even when our hearts are downcast. Thank you for the love that comes in your presence and for coming to us in our darkest moments.
