Romans 5:3 “Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope.”
Pain is a part of life.
None of us like to think about it but we know
this is true. In a world where comfort is valued above all else we can often ask ourselves “What did I do?” When we experience pain. Now, it is true that sometimes we experience pain because of our own choices. However, there are also those times when suffering or
pain is thrust upon us. It is in these seasons that it is hard to believe that God is for
us. Paul knew personally what it felt like to suffer.
In Romans 5 he gives us the following truths to hold on to in seasons of pain:
1. Suffering will change you.
2. Suffering will build you instead of break you when remember God has a
purpose.
In seasons of suffering Paul instructs us to lean on God and to remember that
suffering is not a sign of God’s anger or judgment. God is near in times of pain. He is
not absent. Paul also tells us to lament to God. He cares and wants to know our
hearts. Ultimately, we need to look forward to what God has next in this world and
in eternity.
How about you? Are you in a season of suffering today? Are you leaning into God or
away from God? Have you shared your heart with the One who knows and cares? Will you allow this season to build your faith and character or will it break you?
Take a moment to read and reflect on Romans 5 and learn how God is for you even
in seasons of suffering!
God Bless,
Mike
