Luke 6:28 “bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.”
A couple of weeks ago I was moving quickly through my house and not really paying attention to where I was going. As I passed the end of my coffee table I miss judged the distance needed to clear the corner and caught the pinky toe of my right foot on the leg of the table. Ouch! If you have ever done this then you know this really hurts! What happened next was a yell, a cry, a message to the table about how it was at fault, and finally acceptance that I caused the pain.
When someone hurts us emotionally we often have a similar response. We yell, we may cry, and we talk or think about how they are in the wrong. Jesus teaches us that they only way to experience freedom from this kind of hurt is to truly forgive. When hurt we can choose to carry the hurt or to release it. Forgiveness is when we release the right to get even with someone else. It is a choice not to say it is ok but to release the offender to God.
How about you? Are you carrying a hurt today that can be released if you choose to forgive? Has someone treated you disrespectfully or worse? Would you like to experience the freedom that comes when you release this to God?
Take a moment to read and reflect on Luke 6:27-34. Who is there in your life that you need to forgive today?
God Bless,
Mike
