Ephesians 2:8-9 “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith-and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God-not by works, so that no one can boast.”
I wish I were a better handyman. Often when things break around my house I go through a process of nervously trying to fix the item before eventually calling a professional to do the job right. Maybe you can relate to the struggle of doing it yourself. Home repair is not the only area where people try to DYI. Some even take a DIY approach to God.
In Romans 2 Paul speaks to a crowd of religious Do-it-yourselfers and tells them you can seek God either by DIY or by grace. He mentions that DIY religion cannot fix our ultimate problem even when we try to “be good” enough. The good news is that God accepts us by grace through faith and we don’t have to do it ourselves!
Have you ever taken a DIY approach to your relationship with God? Have you ever looked around at others and thought “at least I am not as bad as _____?” Have you ever tried to win God’s favor though religious rituals or practices?
The good news today is that God is for you! You don’t have to earn something He has already given. You don’t have to try to fix something just trust Him. He is the true handyman, trust in His grace.
God Bless,
Mike
