Ephesians 2:10  “For we are God’s Handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”

A couple of months ago, Scott Foster’s wildest dream became a reality - and he didn’t see it coming.  Scott is a 36 year-old accountant in Chicago who loves to play hockey in the beer league, during his free time.

On March 29, he had finished up work and got a call from the Chicago Blackhawks informing him he would be that night’s emergency goalie. The NHL has a quirky rule that says that a team can dress 20 players, including two goalies. If one goalie cannot play, NHL teams will try to call up a goalie from a minor-league team to fill in. If that can't be done in time for a game they can name an emergency goalie.  Scott had been named emergency goalie for home games before, but never suited up or played. Emergency goalies almost never play. But on March 29, Scott played. He stopped every shot he faced. The crowd started chanting his name. The Blackhawks won!

Can you imagine getting ready to watch a game, and then find out that you are going to play in the game instead? That would change everything! Watching your team and hoping they win is fine, but playing for your team and helping them win is amazing!

You and I may never play an NHL game, but God calls each of us to “get in the game” of helping fulfill his purposes in the earth.   God calls each of us to make a difference.  Doing good works for God is a sign of spiritual life.  So today, embrace how God has designed you through your gifts, personality, experiences, and passions.  Look for opportunities to use your abilities to make a difference today.

God Bless,

 Mike
